Family Crest

This was done for a project I am to turn into my Art Appriciation class in a few days. I am quite happy with how it came out (especially the orange rose) and cell shading is quite fun! My only regret is that I didn't think to make the canvas  size bigger so that this would have turned out better quality.

1.) SYMBOL #1 – Choose an animal to represent your family:  Bear

Do a little bit of basic web research to look up a common meaning for the symbolism of your chosen animal – what does the animal represent?

The bear symbolizes strength, courage, the value of rest, and a deep appreciation of the sweeter things in life.

2.) SYMBOL #2 – Choose another symbol (object, plant, iconic shape, etc.) to represent your family together with the animal:

Antlers, Orange Roses

Do a little bit of basic web research to look up a common meaning for the symbolism of your chosen second symbol – what does it represent?

Antlers, with how they fall and regrow, represent regeneration and second chances. Meanwhile, the orange rose symbolizes enthusiasm, passion, and gratitude.

3.) SYMBOLIC COLOR – Choose a color that is symbolic of your family:  Purple

Do a little bit of basic web research to look up a common meaning for the symbolism of your chosen color – what does the color represent?

The color purple is a symbol of royalty, sophistication, and luxury.

4.) OVERALL SYMBOLISM – Combining all of the symbolism from questions 1-3, what is the overall meaning of the iconography in your family crest? How is your family represented?

With the bear, antlers, and orange roses together, my family crest represents my family’s love and appreciation for the best of days and cherished moments of rest as well as our individual strengths and how in times of hopelessness, confusion, and pain, we’ve managed to be blessed with second chances and the ability come back stronger than before. Like the bear, my family is scattered and rarely seen with the exception of my strong, protective mother and my siblings. We are each strong and determined to do our best and achieve our goals but we also enjoy resting and we prefer to focus on the fun and relaxing moments of life rather than stress too much on the negative and overwhelming. Like the symbolism of regrowth from the antlers, we have faced many trials and moments of depression and confusion. Even so, we’ve managed to pull through and regrow our hopes that had been lost. Like orange roses, we are always full of gratitude for what we have been blessed with throughout our lives and we are passionate about our dreams and wishes. Lastly, the color purple for the crest symbolizes how determined my mother and Nana have been throughout our lives in making sure we speak and write in the most proper form, that we consume the highest quality of food and water to keep us healthy and happy, and that, despite our currently-modest living conditions, we always consider ourselves wealthy and prosperous.
